Since I was last here, I have started working that fundraiser I told you about and am actually seeing some income as a result. It isn't going to make us rich, but it will begin to cover some of the day-to-day expenses. Now I'm starting a frenzy of p…

Thank you for your excellent inspiration and input. I am currently developing a website for the new project so it isn't up yet. I have three board members other than myself and they are all talk and no action. Since 2001 they done nothing, they have…

Dan, I am green with envy that you have so many volunteers. I just have me and a do nothing board of directors that refuse to resign. I appreciate that Debra started this discussion. I’ve been searching for seed money, no pun intended, to fund my n…

I'll come back in a few days and start up a discussion about this. I'm researching a fundraising idea that I may become an affiliate for because it's a great idea. I came across it while researching ideas and strategies for raising money for my new…

A friend of mine who is a probation officer helped organize the first cease fire between the Bloods and the Crips in Los Angeles. What the participants identified as their number one priority was finding jobs. My friend started the Jobs For Peace In…

There are several mentor programs in Los Angeles - they are run by nonprofit agencies who were awarded grants by the county. The larger foster care nonprofits have mentor programs for their clients. It's my understanding that they do not seek separa…

Ugh, I just wrote this really brilliant :-) reply to your question and it disappeared before I could hit the Add Reply button. Here's goes again, but don't look for brilliance this time around, I spent my quota for the day. I don't know the answer t…

I'm probably one of those members that have significant experience in this category. I would say that each city and county is different with regard to the mentoring programs they have. There are organizations such as The Casey Family Programs that m…

Paula just added a comment under the "'What would you say are the biggest concerns people tend to have before deciding to become a mentor to youth (ages 20 and under)?"... having to do with job mentoring youth online. Feel free to chat about the type of direction you see that kids need in the age group you're working with.

Hi Julia! Welcome and thanks for setting up your profile. Please do add your experience to any of the current sub-topics on mentoring. Or, because yours is about "youth" who are out of high school, I'd love for you to begin a discussion on that age group. Maybe just asking if anyone knows of programs similar to yours elsewhere in the country or who has found a way to get a program launched and how they began. You'll probably get some input from Dan in Chicago or even Paula. Networking is what this is all about! Thanks.
