National Conference on Volunteering and Service this week.

The National Conference on Volunteering and Service is being held in San Francisco on June 22 to 24. I'm writing about it on my blog and following on twitter.

How are others connecting with what's going on at this event?

Kids Hope USA and others of interest

Hi Debra and friends,

I saw an article in my Chicago SunTimes yesterday titled "Mentors from Churches tutor students". It was written by Betsy Hart, who hosts a blog, radio show, news columns, etc. In this article she was pointing to a group called Kids Hope USA, based out of Michigan.

I might have heard about this group in the past, but have had no contact. This illustrates that there are many different mentoring and… Continue

Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference in Chicago seeks to draw attention to tutor/mentor programs

The May and November conference that I've hosted in Chicago since 1994 are intended to draw people involved in volunteer-based tutoring/mentoring programs together to network, share ideas, and build collaborations that help each other do better work.

However, they are also intended to… Continue

Introduction

Thanks for inviting me to join the group Debra. Here's an introduction so others know a bit about me:

I combine 40 years of unique experiences into my leadership of a non profit based in Chicago, called Cabrini Connections, Tutor/Mentor Connection. Few people in the US have a similar depth of involvement and experiences.

Dan, the Ning team got back to me with a modification for Groups. When you get a minute see if you can see the option on your home page either on the left-hand column or by clicking on the Groups tab at the top. Thanks!

Of course Dan. You make things look so easy. And I think I like what I'm seeing on NICE. Prime Initiative is about to undergo some changes about which I would update you in the coming week. It really is nice knowing that you have been in this line of activity since 1972. Talk about focus and steadfastness. that is quite a challenge.

Dan, I'm still working with Ning on the group functionality. I did find a problem with their instructions which they acknowledged. Hopefully this will be resolved soon since I'd really like to catch people's info when they first sign up. BTW, there's a new member who apparently found this forum through you on Plaxo ... from Calif. Thank you!

Dan, I 've sent a question to the help desk on this. I've checked their help file and I've tried checking and unchecking to get it to work for members. I will hopefully have an answer within a day. I'm at a conference all day tomorrow and part of Saturday so I may not get back to this til Sat pm. Thanks for your patience!

Dan, When you click on the "Groups" tab at the top, what do you see on the screen? It should show you a rather plain looking page but does it have an "Edit" link to click on? That link should take you to the group screen fields ... at least that's what I'm seeing. I've check the permissions and I've allowed for group creation by all members so not sure what else to change at this point.

Dan, if you can see the "Add a Group" feature on your profile page, you might want to go ahead and put in the info for Cabrini and Tutor-Mentor to list it , as one group or separately, on this Forum site. I'd like to start building a group reference list for those visiting so it's easy to find you once the mentoring discussion dies down and other topics ensue. If that feature isn't showing up for you, please let me know. Thanks!
